The Fool

Natasha Season 1 Episode 2

In today's episode, I talk about The Fool from the tarot deck. I share the symbolism and meaning of the card and relate it to what is going on in my life currently.

I used two versions of The Fool, one from the Tarot of the Divine and the Candle in the Cave Tarot.

You can find more insights on my Instagram or Youtube, both @The_Cardcast.

Thank you for listening!

SPEAKER_00:

Hi there, and welcome to the Cardcast. I'm so glad you're here. I'm Natasha, and I'm here to share a daily practice I love, pulling an oracle card and interpreting it through the lens of my life. My goal is to help you see oracle cards as a tool for noticing. So take a deep breath, pull up a chair, and let's see what the cards have to say. Since this is our very first episode, I did want to make a couple of notes. First, each deck, whether it's a tarot deck or a different type of oracle deck, is really unique and really different. And I say that to let you know that not every deck and not every artist is going to resonate with you. So when it comes to looking at the symbols on something, if you don't feel like it resonates, that's totally fine, it doesn't have to. There are so many incredible artists who are either recreating a version of the tarot or creating their own thing through an oracle deck. So it's really important to find the one that resonates with you because then you are going to be able to pull the symbolism out of that that really helps you to notice and to reflect and anchor yourself so you can get some great reflection and some great growth out of it. Also, when it comes to symbolism, the same thing will mean something different to different people. So something that could represent a really happy memory or something really beautiful to one person could in fact represent the exact opposite to someone else. And again, that is totally fine. It's important to remember that symbolism is something that means something to you. And how I go about interpreting these things is through the lens of my own life and experience and background, but it doesn't mean that yours will match up. So it's really like, what are these different elements that we're noticing? And then what does that mean to me? The card that I pulled for today's episode is from the tarot deck and it is the Fool, which I love that this was the first card because it's also the first card in a tarot deck. And this is a card that is really representative of new beginnings, of trying something different, of not knowing where this road is going to go or how this is going to evolve. It's about spontaneity and just new opportunities. So it's a really fun card and a really exciting card. One of the reasons I should say that it's called The Fool is that when we're starting something new and we have this beginner's mind, we don't know if we're gonna be good at something and we don't know if we're gonna have a good time doing something and this could be a huge mistake. Right. Or this could not go the way I think it might go or the way I'm dreaming it might go. And so we are at this place where I don't know how it's going to go. That's where you sit kind of with that mindset of the fool, which is really that beginner's mind. And what could this possibly be? Also, with the fool, you haven't taken any steps yet. So you are really, truly at the start of a journey. And because you haven't taken any steps, we don't know how long it'll last or where it'll go. I'm using two different cards also when I look at this. So I'm going to break down the symbolism of each. The first one is from the Candle in the Cave Tarot. And I just, I love this artist so, so much. On this one, you have a woman who's very obviously embarking on a journey. She has a dog with her. And in the background, you can see the sun and the mountains. And what I really appreciate about the card is she's very obviously like moving towards something different. Right now, she looks content on the card. And she has this companion with her. And in the background, what I love about the mountain range too is that it is a journey and there will be those peaks and valleys and we don't know where this is going to go. The other card that I am using for this is the Fool from the Tarot of the Divine, which is my favorite deck. The reason I love that deck so much is that the artist is incredible. Again, incredible art. And she relates each card to a different mythological or classic tale from across the world for the fool it's the little mermaid which is a story we all i think most of us know and in the picture you have a mermaid who's on a rock and she's kind of looking up into the distance where there is a castle yes we know the story of the little mermaid but if we just look at this card There's this person who is looking to this thing that they want. I don't know that much about it, but it seems like something that I might want in the future or that I might want right now. And I don't know all the things that will get me there, but I know that that's something that I'm looking towards. In this side, there are some rocks kind of jutting out of the water. And again, to me, that also is symbolic of the kind of like in the last card where there were the mountains in the background. So you have this journey that is not going to be easy. There will be struggle to get to the other side. When we look at this through the lens of our life, there are a lot of times, especially with the world being so fast-paced and changing, that we are often at a place of being in the seat of the fool, where I need to learn this new thing. I need to know this new thing. This piece is changing, whether I have something changing in my personal life or we have something changing in the workplace. But being in this place can feel really overwhelming and really scary, even though it does have a lot of hope and possibility to it. Hope and possibility doesn't necessarily mean positive vibes all the time, right? It's scary. It's very scary when things change. And even though we all know it's going to change, maybe we even initiated the change, that doesn't mean that it is now this very easy thing to navigate through. in working through this, you have to start somewhere and that place of starting is a place of an experience because we haven't necessarily lived or performed or behaved in a way that was this most authentic version. And sometimes our most authentic version is a version of ourselves that we were and then we took on all this additional baggage and these other things and we evolved into something different. And that's fine. That happens to a lot of people. It can also be that as we get more experience in the world and as we change and evolve in general, what authenticity looks like is different. When you think about the fool, it's the first step. It's the first step forward. towards whatever is next. I know for me personally, I'm at a really unique place where I do feel like I'm in the seat of the fool because there are a lot of changes coming up for me, specifically in my workplace, where I don't know how it's going to go. And I want to be optimistic and I want to be hopeful. And the experiences that I've had before are what are making me nervous and making me frustrated around what that could possibly look like. I love that this was the card for today because not only is it perfect for the first time I'm talking with you all about it, but it's also really perfect for where I am in that it's I don't know what's going to happen. I don't have experience with this type of iteration and this type of change. So trying to really stay in that place of potential and new opportunities and being as positive as possible without being so overly optimistic that I ignore signals and other signs, but making sure that I can navigate through this in the most productive way possible. And so for me in my life, that's where the fool is really showing up heavy. And it just, it also makes me interested and excited about what's next in a lot of different areas. That's all for today's prompt. For more insights and for photos of the cards that I was using today, you can find me on Instagram and YouTube at the underscore card cast. I'll see you again in the next episode.
