The Cardcast
The Cardcast is a quiet exploration of life, one oracle card at a time. In each episode, we pull a single card and reflect on how its message weaves through the everyday — the moments, questions, and patterns that shape our world. No predictions, no prescriptions — just space to notice, connect, and listen in. Whether you're card-curious or card-devoted, come sit with the symbols.
The Cardcast
Protection
Today's Talisman Oracle card "Protection" features an ornate door knocker, symbolizing both our desire for entry into new experiences and our power to set boundaries. I explore how door knockers represent thresholds between our protected inner sanctuaries and the outside world, offering insights on when to open doors and when to maintain boundaries.

Hi there and welcome to the Cardcast. I'm Natasha and I'm so glad you're here. Each day I pull an Oracle card and reflect on what it means in the context of everyday life. My hope is to help you use these cards as simple tools for awareness and grounding. So take a deep breath, settle in and let's see what today's card has to say. Our card today is from the Talisman Oracle. Our card is Protection, and it has one of those old-fashioned or very expensive and ornate door knockers.
Speaker 1:The door knocker immediately to me, me symbolizes this desire for entry, and not only the desire for entry into something. Maybe it's a new project, maybe it's a new mindset, maybe it's letting go of something and moving into the next space, but it's that desire for moving through a path, moving through a doorway, into the next thing. If you're on the other side of that door knocker. People knock because they have desire for entry, but that's your opportunity to set a boundary. So that door is the boundary. Someone is letting you know they would like to cross that boundary and you have the opportunity to decide if that is what is right for you and what is right for the situation. When I think about a door knocker too, especially when it being on the outside of a home. We're typically shielded in our homes, and it's this place of being sheltered, of having sanctuary, of having privacy, and so, again, that could be one of the boundaries there. Maybe there's that going into oneself, that feeling sheltered, that healing energy, the ability to essentially recharge and renew oneself before then having to go outside of that boundary and back into the rest of the world. Also, the door knocker is a little bit ominous, and it makes me think of the gargoyles who protect old cathedrals.
Speaker 1:Scary things can protect you, right? That's why they were made to look so scary, was that? The purpose was to scare things off, and when I think about the scary things that protect us, those can be external things, of course, like a visually scary door knocker or a gargoyle, but they can also be internal things, and the key, though, is to learn how to leverage them in a way that is actually productive and actually helps us and doesn't hinder us or hurt ourselves and others. An example would be something that can be really scary is when people get very angry about certain things. Anger is an incredible emotion that, when you let it run amok, it can cause a lot of damage. It damages relationships, it can damage your livelihood, but anger itself is not damaging. It's how we're expressing it in the world.
Speaker 1:When it comes to this card, though, and the purpose of something scary being there to protect you, we have this emotion because it is signaling something to us.
Speaker 1:Remember that these things, we are confronted with them because they're an opportunity for us to do something different.
Speaker 1:When I go back to how would I reflect on this card? It makes me think of what are the places that I'm trying to enter, and then, also, what boundaries do I need to ensure are in place, or maybe revisit, when it comes to allowing the entry of others, with all the different symbols and perspectives that I talked about today, I would invite you to think about is there a place in your life that you are desiring entry, and what could that look like? What could that possibly be? And then, also, is there a place where you need to either revisit boundaries or put up a boundary to protect and shelter other aspects of your life, whether that's in your physical life or your mental life, or your emotional life? Boundaries are great, and we need to have them, and sometimes we need to fortify them, and then, sometimes, situations change and we can adapt them. That's it for today's card.
