The Cardcast

Meditation Mishap

Natasha Season 1 Episode 54

Today we explore the "Meditation Mishap" card from the Modern Life Oracle deck, reflecting on the challenges of quieting a busy mind and finding value in an imperfect meditation practice.

• The card depicts someone attempting to meditate while surrounded by mental noise and distractions
• Meditation feels difficult because our minds are constantly busy with thoughts and external stimuli
• We often hold ourselves to unrealistic standards of achieving perfect mental stillness
• Success in meditation can be as simple as slowing down some thoughts or being 5% calmer
• Our brains are "valuable real estate" and we can be more intentional about what occupies our mental space
• Moving from "mind full" to "mindful" doesn't happen instantly in our constantly connected world
• Small improvements in our meditation practice are worth celebrating

Speaker 1:

Hi there and welcome to the Cardcast. I'm Natasha and I'm so glad you're here. Each day I pull an oracle card and reflect on it as a tool for awareness and grounding. So take a deep breath, settle in and let's see what today's card has to say. Today's card is from the Modern Life Oracle and we got Meditation Mishap. And on our card we have an individual who is sitting like they're attempting to meditate and above and behind them are all of these different images and clouds and essentially, this representation of a lot of noise.

Speaker 1:

This card, I know, for me, really resonates today because as I've been working on strengthening my meditation practice, which some days means even just doing it. But strengthening that meditation practice, one of the biggest things that prevents me from doing it is how difficult it is. I know I'm not unique in that. There's a lot going on in my head all the time and I think a lot of us experience that and we have ebbs and flows of that, of what is going on in our head and how much and the environment impacts that. We come to this place where there's just so much going on that we don't feel like we can quiet all of that noise. And I know, for me I tend to put myself in this place of it needs to be this idyllic meditation practice where I go in and just mentally I am able to be in the present moment and I don't really consider that, even if I just slowed down some of those thoughts and it just took away a few things and maybe just calmed some things for a little bit, that is still very successful.

Speaker 1:

When it comes to a meditation practice, Whether it's for myself or for others. We can't expect to go from a constantly connected, always-on world into a complete Zen master meditation mentality. This card also really points to the idea that are we being mindful of the different things that we're thinking about and maybe holding on to, versus our mind is full and it's just full of a bunch of stuff and while we do want to be connected to the world and our friends and our families and the things going on, your brain is really valuable real estate If we can think about it like that, like not everything needs to be in there at all times. Where are the places that we can calm it a bit?

Speaker 1:

Again, likely leveraging something like meditation and then acknowledging that at other times we're going to be in a place of taking in a bunch of information, and that's also fine, but really I think it's about getting to that place of calming my mind and slowing down some of the thoughts for even just a few minutes, or even just a little bit. 5% better is a really great start, and why not start there? So what is keeping you from feeling calm or being able to slow your mind down? That's it for today's card.
